Legal ranges & QC

Legal ranges (a.k.a. broadcast-safe or video levels) are the code-value limits a deliverable must stay within: for 10-bit, roughly 64 (black) to 940 (white), with headroom above and footroom below reserved. Push a highlight past the ceiling or crush black under the floor and automated QC flags it — it’s the delivery-time, pass/fail version of the “video vs full levels” from 1.7. QC (quality control) is the pass that decides whether a master ships: technical checks (legal ranges, resolution/frame rate/codec, HDR metadata, color primaries and transfer characteristic), content checks (dead pixels, boom mics, dropped frames, sync), and compliance checks like Harding. Resolve’s broadcast-safe scope limits and clamp keep the signal legal; reading the destination’s spec and matching it line by line is how you pass QC the first time.
