Pivot

Pivot sets the brightness point that contrast rotates around. Adding contrast pushes highlights up and shadows down at the same time — but around a middle point, and if that point is wrong the whole image ends up too dark or too light. Raise or lower the pivot to rebalance: the punch stays, the overall brightness comes back.
