Halation
Halation is the soft red-orange glow that blooms around very bright highlights in film. It happens because light passes through the emulsion, scatters off the back of the film base, and re-exposes the surrounding area — so it reads as a warm halo around light sources, hot windows and specular highlights. Adding it back is one of the touches that sells a digital film emulation: in Resolve you build it on its own node, keyed to the highlights, blurred, and tinted toward red-orange.
