Qualifier (HSL key)

A qualifier is a secondary-grading tool that isolates a portion of the image by color rather than by shape. You sample a hue, saturation and luminance (HSL) range — for example skin, a sky, or green water — and Resolve builds a matte of every pixel that falls inside it, which you then grade on its own node. Click-drag across the target to widen the sample, view it in highlight black-and-white mode, and clean the edge with the matte finesse controls (denoise, clean black, clean white, blur) to kill chatter and noise. For trickier selections the 3D keyer often keys cleaner, and a power window can trim what the qualifier over-grabs.
